Powder Brows vs. Microblading — Which One Is Right for You?
Powder Brows by Dima at Indigo Beauty Spa, Aventura, Miami. Soft, natural, and long-lasting — no daily brow routine needed.
What Are Powder Brows?
Powder brows use a small device to deposit pigment in tiny dots across the brow, building up color gradually to create a soft, powdered finish — similar to the look of brow powder or a filled-in brow, but permanent.
Dima's preference is powder brows, and for good reason. The way they heal is more natural and consistent long term. Because there's no blade cutting into the skin, there's less trauma, more predictable pigment retention, and a result that ages more gracefully regardless of skin type.
Which One Is Right for You?
Skin type is the biggest factor.
If you have normal to oily skin, powder brows are almost always the better choice. Oily skin tends to break down microblading strokes faster, which means more frequent touch-ups and less predictable results over time. Powder brows hold significantly better on oilier skin and maintain their shape and color much longer.
If you have dry skin and want a very natural, hair-stroke look, microblading can be a great option. Dry skin holds pigment more consistently and the strokes stay defined longer.
Lifestyle matters too. If you're active, spend a lot of time in the sun, or don't want to think too much about aftercare, powderbrows tend to be more forgiving.
What Does the Healing Process Look Like?
After your powderbrows appointment with Dima, your brows will go through a healing process that takes about 30 days for the color to fully settle. In the first week they'll look darker and more intense than the final result — this is completely normal. As your skin heals, the color softens and the true result starts to come through.
At around week 6, Dima typically recommends a touch-up appointment to address any color patches — areas where the skin may not have held pigment as evenly. This is a normal part of the process and is why the touch-up exists. That said, clients who follow their aftercare closely sometimes find they don't need it at all.
If you've been researching permanent makeup for your brows, you've probably come across both powder brows and microblading — and you've probably wondered what the actual difference is. Both give you fuller, defined brows without the daily pencil routine. But they are not the same service, and choosing the wrong one for your skin type can affect how your brows look years down the line.
At Indigo Beauty Spa in Aventura, our PMU artist Dima is certified in both techniques. Here's her honest take on each — and how to know which one is right for you.
What Is Microblading?
Microblading uses a fine blade to create small, hair-like cuts in the skin and deposit pigment into them. The result mimics the look of individual brow hairs and can look incredibly natural — especially right after the appointment.
The catch is in the healing. Because microblading relies on how deep the blade goes into the skin, the long-term result depends heavily on the artist's technique and your skin's response. Go too deep and the strokes can blur over time. On oily skin, pigment tends to fade faster and strokes can lose their definition, leaving brows that look patchy or uneven after a year or two.
It's a technique that requires precision — and even then, not every skin type holds it the same way.
Why Dima Specializes in Both — But Prefers Powder Brows
Dima is certified in both techniques and can perform either one beautifully. But when a client asks her honest recommendation, powderbrows is almost always her answer — because the way they heal and age is simply more reliable. Long-term, the result looks more natural, holds better across different skin types, and requires less correction down the road.
At Indigo, we'd rather give you brows that look incredible three years from now than brows that look perfect on day one.
