Proper aftercare keeps your lashes looking this fresh — we'll show you exactly how.

You just left Indigo with a fresh set and they look incredible. The goal now is to keep them that way as long as possible. Lash extension retention isn't just about the quality of the application — it's also about what you do (and don't do) after you walk out the door.

Here's exactly what we tell every client at Indigo Beauty Spa in Aventura.

The First 24 Hours Are Everything

The adhesive used to bond your lash extensions needs time to fully cure. For the first 24 hours after your appointment, keep your lashes completely dry. That means no showers directly hitting your face, no steamy workouts, no swimming, and no crying if you can help it.

Avoid touching or rubbing your lashes during this window. The bond is setting and any friction or moisture can interfere with how well your extensions hold.

Cleanse Your Lashes — Yes, Really

The biggest mistake lash clients make is avoiding their lashes when washing their face because they're afraid of losing them. The opposite is true. Clean lashes last longer.

Oil, makeup residue, and product buildup break down the lash adhesive over time. Washing your lashes regularly with a gentle, oil-free lash cleanser keeps the bond strong and your extensions looking fresh. Use a soft cleansing brush, work it through your lashes gently, and rinse thoroughly.

At Indigo, we make this easy — we carry our very own Indigo Beauty Spa lash cleanser with a brush, available for $20. And the best part? It's included with every first appointment. You leave your first visit already set up for success.

We recommend cleansing your lashes at least 3 times a week — daily if you wear eye makeup.

Sleep on Your Back — or Get a Silk Pillowcase

If you're a side or stomach sleeper, your lashes are rubbing against your pillow every night. Over time this causes extensions to twist, fall out unevenly, and lose their curl. Try to sleep on your back when possible. If that's not realistic, a silk or satin pillowcase creates significantly less friction than cotton and is much gentler on your lashes

Don't Skip Your Fill Appointment

Lash extensions shed with your natural lash cycle — typically every 2 to 3 weeks. Coming in for your fill within that window keeps your set looking full and maintained. Wait too long and you'll lose density to the point where a fill becomes a full new set.

At Indigo, we recommend booking your next fill before you even leave your appointment. That way you're never scrambling to find a spot when your lashes start looking sparse.

What to Avoid Entirely

  • Waterproof mascara on extensions — it's nearly impossible to remove without pulling lashes

  • Mechanical eyelash curlers — they can snap extensions and damage your natural lashes

  • Picking or pulling at extensions — always let them shed naturally

  • Steam rooms and saunas in the first week — heat and moisture weaken the bond
